Server Logs/Log Analysis Tools
IRIS uses server logs and log analysis tools to create
summary statistics about Web site usage to improve site
management. The statistics are used for purposes such
as assessing what information is of most interest to
users, determining technical design specifications,
and identifying system performance or problem areas.
IRIS does not report or use this information in any
manner that would reveal personally identifiable information,
and does not release the information to any outside
parties unless required to do so under applicable law.
Logs are kept indefinitely. The following information
is collected for this analysis:
User Client hostname
The hostname (or IP address if DNS is disabled) of the
user/client requesting access.
HTTP header, "user-agent" - The user-agent
information includes the type of browser, its version,
and the operating system it's running on.
HTTP header, "referer" - The referer specifies
the page from which the client accessed the current
page.
System date - The date and time of the user/client request.
Full request - The exact request the user/client made.
Status - The status code the server returned to the
user/client.
Content length - The content length, in bytes, of the
document sent to the user/client.
Method - The request method used.
Universal Resource Identifier (URI) - The location of
a resource on the server.
Query string of the URI - Anything after the question
mark in a URI.
Protocol - The transport protocol and version used.
Search Keywords - the keywords used to search for a
page on this website
IRIS monitors network traffic for site security purposes
and to ensure that the site remains available to all
users. Unauthorized attempts to upload information,
change information on this site, or otherwise cause
damage are strictly prohibited and may be punishable
under Texas Penal Code Chapters 33 (Computer Crimes)
or 33A (Telecommunications Crimes). Except as may be
required for authorized law enforcement investigations,
no attempts are made to identify individual users or
their usage habits. IRIS does not use raw data logs
for any other purposes.
Information Collected from
E-mails
IRIS does not sell or release the e-mail addresses of
members of the public that have been provided to communicate
electronically with IRIS without the affirmative consent
of the affected member of the public. Personally identifiable
information contained in a question or comment sent
to IRIS in an e-mail message or submitted in an online
form is only used by IRIS to respond to the request
and to analyze trends. IRIS may redirect the message
to another UTA office or person who is in a better position
to answer the question.
Information Collected from
Web Forms
IRIS uses Web-based forms to provide feedback about
the website or to contact the web team. Personally identifiable
information collected from these forms has a specified
use and IRIS uses the information only for that purpose.
Each Web-based form contains a link to this privacy
policy.
An individual who submits information in electronic
format through this Web site is entitled, on request,
to receive and review the information IRIS collects
about the individual, and to have IRIS correct the information.

Personal Information
When you engage in certain activities on this site such
as sending an online advising request or applying for
a faculty position, we may ask you to provide certain
information about yourself by filling out and submitting
an online form. It is completely optional for you to
engage in these activities. If you elect to engage in
these activities, however, we may ask that you provide
us personal information, such as your first and last
name, mailing or delivery address, e-mail address, telephone
and facsimile numbers, UTA ID number and other personal
identifying information.
Depending upon the activity, some of the information
that we ask you to provide is identified as mandatory
and some as voluntary. If you do not provide the mandatory
data with respect to a particular activity, you will
not be able to engage in that activity. We use a secure
server to collect personal identifying information.
How your personal information
is used
We collect your personal information in order to record
and support your participation in the activities you
select. If you are sending an online advising request
for example, the information that is collected is used
to process the request you send in. We neither share
the personal information collected with any unauthorized
person or party nor do we use any personal information
for any purposes other than that specified on the submission
page.

The personal information that you provide while using
the forms / facilities on this website is encrypted
when required by State Law.
Cookies and Web Bugs
When you visit this website, you can surf the site anonymously
and access important information without revealing your
identity. In order to carry out an online advising system
and online application system, we use "cookies"
to track your visit.
A cookie is small amount of data that is transferred
to your browser by a Web server and can only be read
by the server that gave it to you. They function as
your identification card. Cookies cannot be executed
